About Us

The Waushara County Watershed Lakes Council, Inc. (WCWLC), is a 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1996, and includes membership from 30 water groups (approximately over 3,500 members) within or partially within Waushara Co. boundaries. (Waushara is one of six counties within the Central Sands Region of Wisconsin). Annual dues are requested at the start of each fiscal year, but are accepted anytime during the year. Members are eligible to vote at meetings, otherwise anyone can participate in meetings and request to be included in e-mail updates/meeting notices. WCWLC also offers an Environmental Education Program to any eligible Waushara Co. resident, group, or organization to help pay for environmental education activities.

WCWLC’s purpose is to maintain and protect the quality and quantity of the waters within Waushara Co. WCWLC provides a forum to share information, collaborate with state and county services, (e.g. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Waushara Co. Land Conservation & Zoning Department, UW-Extension, Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Education – Golden Sands RC&D), and invites speakers who offer a variety of topics of interest to water groups at our meetings. Topics often include lake management, water resource policies/legislation, DNR grant-funding opportunities, healthy fish/wildlife habitats, water-related educational opportunities, and at each meeting – a member group’s representative is invited to share their own water issues/projects which provides better understanding and collaborative opportunities within our organization of how best to manage our water resources.
